The 'Knaus Motorhome Owners Club of Great Britain' was officially formed during the first meeting of its members, on the weekend of 30th August to 2nd September 2002. The founding members, Bill and Jean Sier of Cambridgeshire, had been responsible for forming the 'Laika' motorhome owners club some ten years previously and had guided it through its infancy to see it grow in popularity. Than group now has some 120 members.
Bill and Jean changed their unit for a Knaus Sun Traveller and, upon realising there was no UK club (and subsequently very little support) for Knaus owners, decided to write to the 'letters' column in the Motorcaravan and Motorhome Monthly magazine in order to see if there was sufficient interest in forming a new owners club.
The resultant first meeting of the group took place at Waterfront Country Park camping site at West Stockwith, nr. Chesterfield, which saw eight units attend.
Bill and Jean's previous experience with motorhoming and their efforts to bring about a new club (with all its advantages) led them to volunteer in guiding this new club for the first year.
Mike and Jill Dixon took over as Secretary and Treasurer for the club in 2003 and have seen the membership rise to 80 units. In April 2007 they stood down from their positions, and Keren Nicholls was elected as the new Secretary, with Bill Lowes taking up the position of Treasurer.
At the 2009 AGM in was agreed that Cathy Wilcox and Andrea Hamblin would jointly take of the role of club secretary from Keren Nicholls, who would in turn take on the role of club liaison officer. Tony Poole took on the role of club chairperson, and Kevin Hamblin will take on the role of webmaster from Steve Brock. Finally, Bill Lowes remains as treasurer and takes on the role of membership secretary.
The club currently produces a periodic news sheet, the Knaus Kontakt.
The club's membership is widely spread throughout most of the UK, with the AGM being held at the National Motorhome Show in April of each year.
